Vintage 1949 Trifari Alfred Philippe Rag Doll Ragdoll Brooch. This highly collectible Trifari brooch from the Alfred Philippe era is difficult to find and makes the ideal addition to any fine jewelry collection. Measures 1.7 L x 1 W.Condition is excellent with only minor yellowing of the clear rhinestones, as expected with a piece dating back over 70 years. The molded glass red stones show no wear that I can see under a loop. Any defects on the back of the piece are only shadows from my camera. The rhodium plating is in excellent condition.
Philippe trained at the prestigious LEcole Boulle design school. After coming to America as an immigrant, Philippe worked as a fine jewelry designer for William Scheer, a reknown jeweler of the Art Deco era. Philippe was responsible for several complete collections on behalf of Scheer for Cartier and Van Clerf & Arpels Philippe moved as a designer for Trifari after the economic crash of 1929. He eventually became the head designer where he worked until his retirement in 1968. His work has influenced jewelers and designers for decades, making him one of the most collectible names in vintage high end costume jewelry.
